Supreme commander 2

Supreme commander 2 is a strategy game that stands out among other RTS games today. This doesn't mean that as many people play it, as say, Starcraft 2, but it means it has game play that is exceptional. Supreme commander 2 has 35 maps (including maps that come with the Downloadable content), all unique, with memorable experiences. One map is a giant satellite suspended in space, another offers a giant steaming hole that dominates the center, while yet another is a map in which a huge chasm separates the two teams, and they must use gunships and transport planes to destroy each other. The game boasts three unique factions, with unique personalities, and each faction boasts more than 30 units, not counting structures. As for factional differences, will you choose the futuristic insect like bots of the Cybrans, and rely on speed and stealth to guide you, the smooth Illuminate, and use advanced abilities given by the alien race the seriphem, or the traditional United Earth Federation, and create a superior air force with gunships capable of tearing ground units apart?

The game is also centered around a tech tree, were you may use research points to unlock abilities and new units. This is how the player gets access to some of the memorable game moments, such as upgrading the Cybran navy to sprout legs, personal shields on your units, and of course massive experimental units that are worth dozens of regular units. Research points are earned by killing enemy units, and through research stations. The Cybrans also have access to the "Proto brain complex" which quickly earns research points. The resources of the game consist of mass and energy, which are gained by producing mass extractors on mass deposits, while energy can be gained by making energy generators, which can be placed anywhere.

Bases also have a part to play, structures built by your commander (which is your starting unit) can make new units and do fighting of their own; The UEF has access to a massive unit launcher that can launch basic combat units to most places on the map, and both the UEF and Cybrans can make huge artillery stations that can hurl shells over the map. All factions have access to a Nuclear missile launcher, and an anti nuke silo.

Language is non existent: it is limited to "darn" "heck" and they don't even miss use God's name. Violence is limited to machines killing machines. The only Humans on the battle field are piloting giant ACUs that explode bloodlessly when killed. This means the maximum amount of human deaths per game is 8, and minimum is one. (the number is determined by number of players in game.) other than that though, we never actually see any blood. In one mission, an evil character Nukes a city inhabited by civilians, but again, no people are ever seen, just a distant nuclear flash and an ominous "What have you done?!"

Unfortunately, for all its great game play, supcom2 has a shallow story, spanning 3 chapters and 18 missions. But really, this game was meant for multi player, not story mode. All in all, I give Supcom2 a four and a half star rating.

A console review: XBOX 360

BEHOLD THE XBOX. This console can be picked for the reasonable price of $200. Also, it is probably the most popular game console currently on the market. Xbox 360 is a modern console, and the greater majority of new games can be found on it. Also, The popular Halo franchise is only available on Xbox. Some doubt the life of the Xbox, as it was released 5 years ago, but if you are thinking of waiting for a new console to come out, then you might be waiting for a while longer. The Xbox 360 will not be replaced until 2015, says Microsoft. The Xbox 360 can also play certain original Xbox games; see Xbox.com for details. The Xbox also has a "family timer" this timer can be set by a parent, limiting the amount of time the Xbox can be played daily or weekly. Xbox LIVE is also a great service, with the Gold addition, you can watch ESPN and get movies from netflix, so long as you have internet. The one downside to the Xbox is the cost of Xbox LIVE, as it does require money to use. However, Xbox LIVE costs only $54 dollars a year, for the Gold edition, so it isn't to bad. More recently, Xbox kinect has allowed gamers to get active while playing, as you can, with certain games, use the kinect add on the control your player with motions from your own body. All in all, I give the Xbox 360 5 stars. I highly recommend the Xbox to anyone in the market for game consoles.
